Veterans invited to cruise for free on Susquehanna riverboat

Patriot-News - 5/5/2024

Veterans are invited to ride the Pride of the Susquehanna, honor America’s fallen, and celebrate our freedom as the Harrisburg Riverboat’s popular Veterans Appreciation Cruise returns on Memorial Day.

Two cruises will be held during the late afternoon and evening on May 27 to help keep pace with overwhelming demand, a press release said.

The nonprofit’s salute to veterans includes a casual dinner, drinks, live music, a brief wreath-laying ceremony, and a leisurely cruise along the Harrisburg skyline. Thanks to generous sponsors, it is free for each registered veteran and one guest. Space is limited to 100 veterans per cruise.

Cruises are being held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m.

“As an Army veteran, I am honored to serve on the Riverboat Board and to help in offering two free cruises to my fellow veterans,” said Veterans Appreciation Cruise Co-Chair Katy Wech, an Army nurse and the daughter of decorated veteran Tom Faley, who was buried in Arlington National Cemetery recently. “This patriotic cruise is just one of many events and services we are honored to provide to our veterans and those on active, reserve or National Guard duty.”

Space is limited on the riverboat, so veterans are asked to reserve a ticket quickly. Go to, click on the red, white and blue registration link, and add your name and your guest’s name.
