The Fine Motor Work Station is designed for a therapist or caregiver and a patient or child to work on fine motor skills through fine motor play. This activity promotes fine motor and coordination skills as children are picking up and placing small objects onto the paper using the pincer grip action.

Technical Specifications:

Step 1: Gather materials.

  • construction paper
  • marker pen
  • assorted buttons, gemstones, string, stones, pebbles, bottle tops, pom-poms, shells or other small tokens

Step 2: The therapist or caregiver draws lines (zigzags or squiggles) on the pieces of construction paper.

Step 3: The child uses the small objects to trace the drawn lines. Use this activity for sorting and classifying the color or size of the buttons. Children can create patterns, rainbow colors (or only use one color) for each line.

Step 4: Turn the paper over to create more designs, patterns, words, letters, numbers, and shapes.
