Offer will half pet adoption fee for veterans

The Herald Journal - 6/1/2018

Active military members and veterans have the chance to adopt a new furry friend at half the cost at the Cache Humane Society through Saturday.

Stacey Frisk, Executive Director of the Cache Humane Society, said the shelter was looking for a way to show celebrate Memorial Day.

“For us in a shelter environment, our animals need to be cared for 7 days a week, so our staff don’t typically get holidays off,” Frisk said. “We’re always looking for ways to bring the holiday to the shelter.”

Frisk said there are always programs to offer reduced-fee adoptions to veterans, including a regular program lowering the adoption fee on senior animals. Because they tend to be lower-energy and already house trained, they’re usually a good fit, Frisk said.

“We find that a lot of military veterans do enjoy taking home an older pet,” Frisk said.

As the Memorial Day offer ends, Frisk encourages those with a military ID to stop by and take advantage of the opportunity. The offer also extends to their immediate family.

“We think there are benefits to everyone having a pet in their lives,” Frisk said.

The offer brings the cost of a dog adoption down to $87, including spay or neuter, all vaccinations and a microchip. Puppy adoptions are $125 and include all vaccinations through their first birthday. Cat adoptions are just $25, including spay or neuter.
