St. Lawrence Plaindealer - 5/22/2018

The Canton Veterans of Foreign War Post 1231 will hold its annual Memorial Day parade and wreath laying ceremony Monday.

Parade participants are asked to gather at 9:30 a.m. at the armory on West Main Street.

Starting at 10 a.m. marchers will proceed down Main Street with a stop on the bridge for a wreath-laying ceremony to honor those who served in the Navy. Traffic will be temporarily stopped.

Participants will proceed to the village park for guest speeches. Three additional wreaths will be presented to honor the military, law enforcement and firefighters.

A second grade class from Banford Elementary will recite the pledge and the Canton Goldennaires will perform the national anthem and Taps. A grave side service will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Miner Street Road, to honor the late Clifford "Tunk" Bisnett, a Navy veteran and former VFW commander.

A luncheon will follow at the VFW Post, Gouverneur Street.
