Tahlequah Daily Press - 11/14/2017

Nov. 14--Andy F. George, who goes by Frank, was born in Cherokee County in 1917.

He will celebrate his 100th birthday on Thanksgiving Day. His family is throwing him a party this weekend at the Tahlequah Elks Lodge to celebrate.

A graduate of Bagley High School, George went into the U.S. Army, he said, "because of the war." His great-uncles, uncles, one brother, and one son also served in the country's military.

He entered into the Army in California, and later spent time living in Susanville, and Rocklin, Calif.

As a member of the 9th Armored Infantry Battalion, 13th Armored (Black Cat) Division, George was a communication sergeant, and did one European campaign.

His areas of expertise were communications, mapping, electronics, and mechanics. After serving, he found a career working in electronics and appliance repair.

Now retired, the 99-year-old George lives alone in Tahlequah, but he has frequent visits from family members. His wife, Wanda, is deceased. He had seven children, but one baby girl died in infancy. His children are Harry, James, George, David, Pat, and Margaret.

George's hobbies include watching the St. Louis Cardinals and the University of Oklahoma Sooners play on television.
