Remote Realtime Online Captioning is an open captioning system designed for use by individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing or who have learning or language disabilities. Remote realtime captioning is provided Internet using the included software and standard computer equiopment. Speakers at the event site (classrooms, meetings, conferences, workshops, phone conferences) use a lapel or hand-held microphone. The audio is digitized by the event-site computer and sent via the Internet to a remote captionist. The remote captionist listens to the digitized audio and transcribes the event. The resulting text is sent back to the event site computer over the Internet where it can be displayed on the computer monitor, television, or overhead projector. The transcript can also be posted to a secure site or sent to particiapnts via E-mail. This system offers verbatim captioning that creates a display of all of the speakers' words or notetaking which provides a summary of the speakers' important points. The system provides realtime participation, accurate text, a permanent record, and flexible scheduling. COMPATIBILITY: For use with IBM and compatible computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Pentium II 450 MegaHertz (MHz) or faster processor with 512 kilobytes of cache, 128 megabytes of RAM, Windows 98 or higher, and a Sound Blaster compatible sound card. A high-quality microphone is also required.
