Jump is a do it yourself activity that help young learners and pre-readers learn phonological awareness. To set up the activity, the teacher uses lines of painter’s tape and marks a number 1, 2, 3, and 4 in between the lines on the ground. Then, the teacher chooses words for the child to decide how many syllables are in it and when the child does, they jump to that number. For example, if the word is ham-bur-ger the child would jump to the number 3.
