Universal Designed 'Smart' Homes for the 21st Century is a book of house plans designed for use by people with disabilities. Based on universal design principles, these 102 plans, which can be ordered and built, are for homes fully accessible to people with disabilities. Many models are less than 2,000 square feet and are designed for narrow lots for urban infill, as well as retirement communities. The remaining homes are largely less than 4,000 square feet. Home types include in-law additions, empty nester, single family, and duplex. The plans also specify optional sustainable building products, clean indoor air products, passive radon emmission details. Engineered safe room plans are also included with every plan ordered; use is optional. The book also has an informative room-by-room description of features and benefits. Also included is a comprehensive list of universal design and "green" building resources, book references, and consultants. The book has a lay-flat spiral binding.
